Perinatal & Postpartum Mental Health Care in Norman, Oklahoma
Pregnancy and early parenthood can bring significant emotional, physical, and psychological changes. Bishop Creek Medical provides specialized psychiatric treatment and medication expertise during pregnancy and the postpartum period, including care for anxiety, depression, high-risk pregnancy stress, birth trauma, pregnancy loss, grief, and medication-related concerns.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE
Treatment through pregnancy, birth, loss, and postpartum life
Perinatal mental-health concerns can begin during pregnancy or develop after childbirth. Symptoms and experiences vary, and appropriate treatment depends on each patient's individual needs. Perinatal depression is a treatable medical condition.
Areas of Treatment
Birth Trauma
Psychiatric treatment and medication expertise for mental-health symptoms associated with frightening, unexpected, medically complicated, or emotionally distressing pregnancy or birth experiences.
Prenatal Anxiety and Depression
Psychiatric consultation, treatment, and medication expertise for persistent worry, sadness, hopelessness, irritability, panic, sleep disruption, or difficulty functioning during pregnancy.
Medication Questions
Individualized discussion of psychiatric medication concerns before, during, and after pregnancy, including potential benefits, risks, treatment history, and personal needs.
Mental Health During High-Risk Pregnancy
Individualized psychiatric treatment for mental-health concerns associated with fear, uncertainty, medical stress, changing expectations, and the demands of a high-risk or complicated pregnancy.
Pregnancy Loss and Grief
Psychiatric treatment for depression, anxiety, and other mental-health symptoms that may occur following miscarriage, stillbirth, infant loss, or other reproductive loss.
Postpartum Depression and Anxiety
Personalized psychiatric treatment and medication management for postpartum symptoms that may include persistent worry, sadness, guilt, exhaustion, difficulty bonding, intrusive thoughts, or feeling unlike yourself after childbirth.
WHOLE-PERSON CARE
Treatment begins with listening. Your provider will consider your symptoms, psychiatric and medical history, current medications, pregnancy or postpartum stage, previous treatment experiences, concerns, personal circumstances, and treatment goals before making recommendations.
Coordination With Your Healthcare Team
With appropriate authorization, Bishop Creek Medical may coordinate with your obstetrician, maternal-fetal medicine specialist, primary-care provider, therapist, pediatric provider, or other healthcare professionals involved in your care.
Individualized Treatment
Treatment may include psychiatric consultation, medication management, individualized treatment recommendations, and coordination with or referral to appropriate counseling or other healthcare resources based on your clinical needs.
Medication Considerations
Pregnancy or breastfeeding does not automatically mean psychiatric medication must be stopped. Decisions should involve an individualized discussion of potential benefits, possible risks, untreated symptoms, and available alternatives. Never start, stop, or change medication without speaking with the prescribing provider.
Bishop Creek Medical provides mental-health care and does not replace prenatal, obstetric, maternal-fetal medicine, emergency, or postpartum medical care.
Thoughtful care for your mental health and changing needs.
